We are delighted to report that we were joined by 60 volunteers for our Earth Day 2015 beach clean-up at Rosalie Bay. The group of volunteers, double in size from last year’s event, cleared our black sand beach for a successful sea turtle season.
Saving Sea Turtles
Natural debris and excess sargassum seaweed can hinder sea turtles from nesting on our beach and hatchlings from reaching the ocean. More than 70 biodegradable garbage bags were filled with seaweed, large driftwood and other waste. In true eco-friendly style, the seaweed gathered will be used as compost in our organic garden.
Phenomenal Team
Joining us in our commitment to environmental protection, Operation Youth Quake, the Tourism Club of Dominica State College, resort employees and their children all rolled up their sleeves and had fun while cleaning up our shore.
Healthful Lunch
After combing through the beach, volunteers moved to the gazebo for a wholesome lunch and recap of the morning’s accomplishments. With multiple generations in attendance, conservation efforts will find support in Dominica for years to come!
