Season’s First Sea Turtle Hatchlings Emerge

The baby sea turtles have started to hatch!

The first sea turtle hatchlings of the 2012 sea turtle nesting season emerged on Tuesday night from our protected black sand beach. There were 92 Green sea turtles that climbed out of their nest and made their way out to sea.

Last night, we excavated the nest and rescued three additional green sea turtle hatchlings (pictured on left). These turtles were released into the Atlantic Ocean at 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

We expect the first Leatherback sea turtle hatchlings to emerge next week.

Summer is an exciting time to be at Rosalie Bay Resort for a chance to see sea turtles nesting and hatching. We hope you have a chance to visit and see this amazing sight.
