Wellness Wednesday: A Sip of Cinnamon

Weekly tips to bring island-inspired wellness into your everyday life from Rosalie Bay Resort wellness coordinator Laura Lund.

Cinnamon is one of the oldest spices used across the globe. It is mentioned in the Bible and in ancient Egypt, China and India. This spice, which is widely available and one of the many healing plants that grow on Dominica, is rich in calcium, manganese and fiber.

Just a dash of cinnamon, less than half a teaspoon, per day can have positive impacts on your health.

Cinnamon slows gastric emptying and can reduce the glycemic index of a meal (lowering blood sugar levels). This may also be helpful to individuals with Type 2 diabetes to normalize blood sugar levels by decreasing insulin resistance.

The bark and leaves from a Cinnamon tree make a delicious, aromatic and naturally sweet tea. Also, when mixed with ginger, cinnamon tea can soothe a stomach ache.

Sip to your health and try a cup of Cinnamon Tea at home or at our wellness resort. Cinnamon tea is served at Zamaan Restaurant for breakfast and dinner.

But, please use moderately as it does not take much to create a positive effect and too much can be toxic.
